A Message From our Principal

September 2019
Dear Curtis Family,
It was so great to see everyone at Open House! We have stepped into a new school year with renewed energy around education! It remains our vision that each child reaches his/her fullest potential towards higher achievement, not only in the current grade level, but in their lifetime. By working together, this vision becomes
reality. The expectations at Curtis Elementary are reflected in the acronym “PAWS”: being Positive, Acting responsibly, Working hard, and practicing Safety.

Congratulations to Mrs. Pulliam for being selected as our “Teacher of the Year.” Mrs. Pulliam is an outstanding teacher and very deserving of this honor. Shehas been a teacher for five years, the last four years as a Curtis Tiger. Mrs. Pulliam has served on numerous committees and currently volunteers to support this year’s Destination Imagination team. We are proud to have Mrs. Pulliam represent our school this year!

We are also celebrating an increase in the percentage of students achieving Mastery or Advanced in core subjects on the Spring 2019 LEAP 2025. On Friday, September 13th, students will have a free dress day (gym shorts allowed) and be treated to Streetcar Snoballs to celebrate this achievement. Way to go Tigers! We will also have a drawing for two iPads to include names of 2018-2019 Curtis students who went up an achievement level on the LEAP. These iPads are sponsored by Cosse and Silmon Orthodontics, a community partner!

You will not want to miss our annual “Fall Festival” on Monday, September 30 th from 4:30-6:30. It will be a fun family night with inflatable amusements, food trucks, Happy Bellies, and book fair. Information will be sent home on how to purchase wristbands for this event, so make plans to come and be part of the action! The book fair will be open for the full week from 9:00-2:30, Monday
through Friday.

Tiger Proud,
Terri Ann Bird
