October 2019

Dear Curtis Family,

October brings a change in the season with football in the stadiums, pumpkins everywhere, and the first report card for 2019-2020 school year! Report cards will be coming home on Thursday, October 17th  in your child’s V.I.P. folder. We will recognize all A and A/B Honor Roll students at the academic assembly on Thursday, October 24th. Fourth grade assembly will begin at 9:00, and fifth grade assembly will begin at 1:00. Our teachers and staff work hard each day to see that every child reaches his/her fullest potential. To all of our parents who support and encourage their child at home, we thank you. To all of our students who give their best each day, keep up the good work!

We have implemented WIN time at Curtis. This time is set aside each day from 8:25 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. During WIN time, based on data, students move to various classrooms to receive prescriptive interventions. Independent Reading Level Assessments (IRLA) and reading materials of students’ interests will support students’ growth. Students will also receive math interventions with ZEARN. Groups and interventions will remain fluid and change as needed throughout the year. Our goal is for every child at Curtis Elementary to perform on grade level.

We have also kicked off our Tiger Team mentor group meetings, all of which are college themed. Our Tiger Team pep rally got everyone fired up, and students found out which college they will  attend. Students will meet in Tiger Teams several times throughout the year to receive character education and get to know their team members on a personal basis.

Bossier City firemen will be here on Friday, October 4th, to present their fire prevention and safety program to all students. They also remind us to change the batteries on our smoke detectors with daylight savings time which falls on November 3rd.

Enjoy the fall break! I hope that the weather allows for everyone to get outside and take part in the change of season.
